Product Shape

Wide-Mouth

Wide-mouth glass containers are selected when the product must be easy to fill, scoop, remove or clean. They are especially relevant to food jars, pantry storage and cream-style products, where opening diameter and lid sealing performance are more important than a narrow dispensing neck.

Decision Points

Design & Usability

01

Shape Characteristics

The opening is proportionally large relative to the body, improving access for viscous, particulate or scoopable products and simplifying cleaning for reusable storage formats.

02

Label & Branding Area

Body shape determines label area; straight-sided wide-mouth jars provide the most usable wrap or front-label surface. Keep artwork away from shoulder and thread transitions.

03

Stability & Packing

Wide bodies are generally stable, but large jars can become heavy when filled. Carton quantity should be controlled by gross weight and dividers should support the body rather than the lid.

Specification Checklist

Production & Fit

01

Opening & Closure

Commonly paired with twist-off metal lids, screw lids, glass lids, bamboo/wood lids or airtight gasket systems. Opening diameter, thread/lug geometry and liner must be approved together.

02

Production Considerations

Large openings reduce neck stiffness and make rim quality, sealing surface flatness and thermal processing compatibility more important.

03

Custom Mold Guidance

Custom development should define mouth diameter, sealing land, closure standard, headspace, body access and filling method before body styling is finalized.
